Airport Shuttle

“Hey, why don’t you sit up front? You can put your coffee here and read your paper. Looks like you’re my only passenger this morning.

“Thanks, I think I’ll do that. This is a nice hotel. I’ll have to remember it if I have to overnight at the airport again. I got in from D.C. around midnight last night and have an 8:08 flight out this morning. So I didn’t want to drive home, get to bed at 1:30am and then have to get up early to drive back to the airport. You know how it feels when you drag around on 4 hours of sleep. This way I got a good 6 hours.

“Yea that’s how I feel right now.  I work 10 hour shifts, go home, sleep for a couple of hours then take my wife to work, then I try to get a couple more hours before I go back to work.

“So you only get four hours of sleep a night?

“Yea, pretty much. Say do you know what they did on the bailouts?

“Looks like they are getting turned down.

“Good. Those CEOs flying to Washington in private jets and holding a silver cup out to get a handout…its just not right. I heard those planes burned $20K in fuel. When times are tough for us working folk, no one bails us out. It’s just not right.

“Well think of who makes the rules. Do you own your own home?

“No, I rent. I don’t want to be tied down. If I want to travel or move to Europe, I don’t want to have to worry about selling a house.

“Do you like to travel?

“I love to travel.

“Where have you been?

“Well, I’ve been all over the United States. And I’ve been to Africa.

“What did you do in Africa?

“I found my wife.

“Wow. That’s really something. Did you hear about how Oprah and several others had their DNA tested to see which part of Africa they came from?

“Really?

“Yea, I think for African Americans to have their history stripped from them, this is a cool way to understand something about their African heritage.

“Stripped away is right. In the book of Deuteronomy it talks about two types of slavery. It says if a man takes a man from his country and makes him a slave he should be put to death. But there is another type of slavery that the Bible talks about where, say if I owed you some huge debt, I could indenture myself and work for you until my debt was paid. Then the Bible says that after the debt is paid that the master must send him away with  goods and money to start his life over.

“Yea, God’s laws were made to bless people.

“Yea, I just keep this to myself. I’ve had a very hard life. There’s stuff  that’s happened to me I could tell you that you just could not believe. You know what’s wrong with the world?

“Tell me

“People have gotten away from God and they can’t expect God to bless them when they are straying so far from him.

“Hey, pull over quickly. Look how DIA is emerging from the clouds—almost like a cloud itself. I have my camera and I can just take a picture out the window……Thanks

“I’m Eric. Have you had any prayer yet today Albert?

“No.

“Well, why don’t I pray for us today?

“OK.

“Lord, thank you for Albert and for his desire to follow you. Thank you for his wife and the love you’ve given him for her. I pray for your hand of blessing on both of us today. Help us walk with you…give us your direction. Father, bless Albert today. In Jesus name Amen.

“Amen…. Are you a preacher?

“No, but I am a Christian. Would you mind grabbing my other bag there?  Thanks.

“Man I’ve got to call my wife and tell her what happened. I’ve never had anyone do this before.

“Here’s something to take your wife out for a cup of coffee. Thanks Albert. Hope our paths cross again.
