My latest book
Back in 2005 my friend Rick Rusaw and I wrote a book called The Externally Focused Church, which led with the question, “If your church were to disappear, would anyone notice…would anyone care? In 2010 we wrote another book called The Externally Focused Quest: Becoming the best church FOR your community (EFQ). In 2020 we were asked by Wiley Publishing to do an update.
This updated and current, 2020 edition trimmed off a few pounds of fat, reducing from 248 pages to a sleek and very friendly 166 pages. EFQ is birthed from the stories from Rick as a megachurch pastor and leader of Spire church network and my work with over 100 of the leading churches in America through Leadership Network.
The book has a nice preface by Alan Hirsch and some good back cover kudos from Ed Stetzer, Wayne Cordeiro, Rebecca Walls and Steve Sjogren.
Here is the chapter outline to see if any of this catches your interest:
Ch.1 What kind of day is today? A summary of the changes we’ve seen in Society, Technology, Environment, Economy, Politics and Religion.
Ch.2 FOCUS: They choose the aisle seat, not the window seat
Ch.3 PURPOSE: They practice weight-training, not body building
Ch.4 Story: They live in the kingdom story, not a church story
Ch.5 Missions: The few sending the many, not the many sending the few
Ch.6 Partnering: They build wells, not walls
Ch.7 Systems: They create paradigms, not programs
Ch.8 Evangelism: They deploy kingdom laborers, not just community volunteers
Ch.9 Creativity: They innovate, not replicate
Ch.10 Outcomes: It’s about the game, not the pregame talk
There are some very basic things, like the Logic Model, platform thinking, the use of data and analytics, the Harvard Flourishing Project, etc, that will help you explain what you are trying to do in your community. If this captures your attention, you may want to check it out at Amazon.com, read the early reviews and take a LOOK INSIDE to see if this book might be for you. My friend, Port Wilburn, Executive Director of Mission / Church Planting for our Southern Baptist friends in the San Francisco Bay area, gives a nice and complimentary summary of the book here. https://www.youtube.com/watch…If this has been helpful, please like and share.
