Florence Morning

This morning took a long walk while the city was waking up. We’re staying at the Jolly Hotel, almost on the Arno River a couple bridges North of the Ponte Vecchio. I’ll enclose a couple of pics so you can experience a bit of what I saw.

    Eric,

Thanks for the mini vacation. Florence is my favorite city in Italy. I had an encounter with the Holy Spirit at a monastery not too far from the duomo. It’s located at the church just adjacent to the Academia (home of the David statue). Anyway, the monastery was home to Fra Angelico. He painted probably the most famous version of “The Annunciation of the Virgin”. It’s painted right there on the wall as you mount the top of the stairs in the monk’s quarters. Priceless. If you have the time and a car, stop in the Tourist center and grab a map of the “Agritourismo”, an agricultural driving tour through the back roads with great views, great food and incredibly warm people. We took it as far south as Orvieto, stopping off at Civita Bagnoreggio, a tiny town of 12 people on a hilltop that requires you to cross the canyon on a foot bridge to get there. Best bruschetta in central Italy made with local tomatoes and olive oil on rustic bread. Enjoy!
